this is my '96 Saturn SC1. Paid 100 bucks for it. I've put about another 1200 into it, so I still think im in the green, lol. Not much to look at, but gets relatively decent gas mileage when I'm nice to it. 1.9L SOHC, MT. Yes, i put SC2 taillights on it, I didnt like the SC1 trunk fascia without the lenses. I put 17" konigs on it after i bought it, and i just installed a new front suspension/hubs/balljoints/tires a few weeks ago.
These are all taken pre-suspension/tires.

I took these with my camera phone. its not the best, lol.

| I've wanted to get a saturn for a while for winter duty, since I hate saturns. Has it been reliable?

| theyre horribly reliable. I bought a '91 for 400 bucks last year that had 225k and was still running like a champ. it was a piece of crap, but again, it ran. you just have to watch out for the stock shifter cable bushing breaking. saturns are extremely easy to fix, unless you run into rust, then the torch needs to come out. we had to use the torch to get the lower control arms out when I replaced them. My '96 is from Vermont. Last edited on Jul 28th, 2008 05:39 AM by capitansSVX

Isn't that just a Geo Storm? Just kidding It's hard to believe a car that looks to be in that shape was once only $100

that was a good read. I havent dealt with the DOHCs. he may have just had a bad egg. i dunno. the 95 and 96's are far more superior, if you will, than the early ones. My car has 6 cup holders, lol. but again, its my beater/daily driver car and i've only been driving it for the last 4 months.
My favorite part is using the a/c to increase/decrease my acceleration. its amazing how much power is lost at the simple switching on of the compressor.
it took my manager negotiating with the owner of my old dealership to get that price; the (dealership) owner wanted 600 for it, and my manager quoted me 100 (they paid 50 bucks for it...). It was a traded in non-running, and was headed for the scrap yard if i hadnt bought it. all i did was install a alternator, coolant temp sensor and reservoir cap and it was running strong.
here are the pics of it before i bought it:

You know, this is why I hate new cars. That car was going to be scrapped, all for such a LITTLE problem. We overproduce cars at such an alarming rate, the value of a used car plummets to almost nothing. They just aren't worth fixing, financially, which is just stupid.
Good news is the auto industry is down, and I think more people are going to start thinking like me. Fixing things is environmentally friendly. Throwing it away and buying a new one, even if the new one gets 50mpg, is NOT good for the environment.

| well, it looks like my saturn may be down for the count; I lent it to a friend in need for the last month and she was the victim of a hit and run last sunday. I found out today that she was in the wreck after they released her from the hospital; she had a head injury. She seems to be fine, but apparently unable to work. I wont find out its condition until tomorrow when I go to the impound lot, but I'm rather pissed that I wasn't informed of the wreck sooner. Looks like my subaru may become my permanent daily driver...

Subaru will be my permanent Daily until I get another car; the saturn's a total loss. Just from looking at the car it needs around 300 in suspension parts alone, not including labor. The unibody is warped in the back from where the car hit the wall. back window is busted out, 2 wheels destroyed. LR wheel bearing fell apart when it hit the wall, and the wheel is still attached to the hub...
here's the slideshow of the pics i took at the wrecker yard:
