I'm having a real hard time getting my pan gasket to seal up on the transmission of my truck and I have a question.
How much pressure should be inside the transmission case/pan? I ask because it would seem I can't get it to seal up on the passenger side due to the amount of pressure behind the fluid. I went out today after using a ton of gasket maker on it and took it for a drive and when I got back it was leaking again. I cleaned up the fluid and watched it and it won't leak when sitting still or when idling, so I jacked up the rear wheels and let the truck idle in gear with the wheels turning and still no leak. BUT, when I had the wife get in and run it up to about 50 MPH it shot out through the pan gasket on the pass. side in a 2 foot long stream across the floor.
Now I figure that should take some considerable pressure to do and it is obviously a problem since I have yet to get it to be leak free since I put it in months ago.
What would cause this???

| Your pan is legit, right? Sometimes overtorquing it can make it impossible to seal again... you knew this already though, so I have no idea. Weld the fucker on?

Yeah, I'm using the chrome deep pan it came with. Took 9 quarts to fill it last night.
I just can't figure why there would be that much pressure in the pan that it would squirt it like that.

It is a possiblilty. I've just never known a tranny to have enough movement or pressure behind the fluid in the pan to actually make it squirt like that.

| Check your bolt holes out, see if they are distorted in any way. You said it is chrome? The lip may be making it hard to seal. Go to the parts store and get the fel pro gasket for a 96 and up to be sure that it is the permadry reusable type and do not use silly-cone on it at all. If the gasket you have already is that type or factory, it has been crushed too far and needs to be replaced anyway.

well, first it had a cork gasket and it leaked on the driver side rear corner. Then I changed the filter and gasket for a rubber gasket with gasket maker and it leaked out of the pass. side all along the pan and it was a BAD leak. I tried it again with no gasket and a bunch of orange gasket maker and that actually worked good except for when I put it in gear and revved it up then it would squirt out on the pass. side. I believe if I'd had let it dry for a few more hours this might have held because when I took the pan back off there was still wet gasket maker and it was mostly where the leak was. Now this current time that I haven't filled up the pan to try yet, I went with some advice from an old schooler and tried 2 rubber gaskets glued together and black gasket maker. We'll see if that works tomorrow as I am letting it completely dry this time. Due to the temps. outside, I have a heater under the truck blowing by the pan to help out so it should certainly be dry and good to go tomorrow.
We'll see.
BTW, It is a chrome pan with 4 qts. extra capacity(9 qts. total) and I see nothing visibly wrong with it.

| Dude, sorry, but gluing two gaskets together is not a good idea, wether it is advice from a old schooler or not

Yeah, but I've done everything else so fuck it. If this doesn't work, then I need a 200+ dollar pan, so every alternative to that is a welcomed try.

If it comes down to it, I can get you a deep pan for way less than 200.00
