I just loved the digital gauges I seen on Jason's road demon. Of which they don't make anymore. So I figured I'd try and find at least a digital tranny fluid gauge, or more desirably a digital trio. LOL And what I did find was just to much money.
Today I been finishing up my newest PC build. Adding some bells & whistles etc. I was looking though all my old pc parts boxes and found an old "digital doctor 5" that I used many years ago on my first dually build. Its a 8 channel digital temp/fan controller. The fan part of it would be useless (10w max) but the temp monitoring includes 8 temp probes. The display is a 1 x 2" LCD which can be removed from its 5.25 panel mount. I not sure of the range i thinks its 0 - 150c.
Well need I say more. Looks like it might fit right into the coin holder with some tweaking. The big catch is how to mount the probes and adding like 5 ft wire to each probe may affect the voltage and therefore the temp reading. Some probes are the bulb type and others are flat ribbon type. I don't know all the specs.
The specific controller I have is real old like 9 years. And I seen lots of new ones on the net today. Some have really cool color LCD displays. There all 12v and made to control fan speed according to probe temps via individual channels usually 3 channels or more. I don't see anyway to
immerse these probes in a hot fluid, but I know they would work fine for measuring any surface temps. The reason i'm so hot on this idea is low cost(30-50 bucks) and ease of mounting the probes. Anything else conventional is going to cost several hundred from what I see.

I'm glad Jason grabbed both sets they had at Summit when he found them.
We were going to sell one set but then I got my SVX- I just have to have them. I was really glad he didn't sell the other set when he had the chance cause I would have missed out and I love the way they look in my car with the CD player that matches them.

Its been to cold out to mess around with the temp monitor. And now i'm deciding if its such a good idea or not. First thing I didn't like is its to small and cycles each temp for 5 seconds. Plus the range is only 32-212f 0-100c. Things I do like are 8 different temps plus a 12v voltage for cheap.

But today I found this. BY far the best, cheapest and most flexible solution I seen yet. Man if I could afford like 4 of these right now! I wonder if you could toggle between the terminal inputs so you only need one?

Trevor i'm betting you know all about this kind of stuff?
Yes do, and it is coincidental that at the moment I am working on a se tup for my SVX, in order to monitor both transmission temperature and line pressure. Something easy to install and economical is my aim.
However in view of the recent comments posted by Jason and his expletive friends, there is no desire to post details here.

Radad, I like your idea here. However, I think what might fit more precisely with the intended application is something used to monitor coolant temps in a water-cooled system.

Look at the link for auberins. Its a multi function auto gauges for $48 + sensor. Four of these would fit together nicely in a rectangular package.
I'm really surprised that more people aren't interested in this project, as heat is a killer to our cars. All the talk about bad trannys and no ones monitoring the tranny temps?
Trev- I for one would be very interested in what your are going to setup for your svx. PM me!

Heres my plan:
4 auberins for oil,h2o,atf temps & oil pressure. Placed where Jason has his digital trio. Takes up 90 x 44 mm. Cost $200 + sensors.
And of course my DD5 monitor for tranny lines inlet, outlet on both rad & cooler. I plan on just duck taping the sensors to the lines. That still leaves 4 channels. Two for water lines in/out. One could just measure ambient air temp temp under the hood and even turn on a 120mm fan at a preset temp for a little more than just passive engine bay cooling. And the last one for inside ambient temp. Cost me just some time. After all the dough I handed to Jason I'm going to protect my tranny the best I can.

Thank you.
I was being lead to think that possibly your comment was centred on sarcasm, like so much else which has been posted.
